Why Take Out Individual Healthcare?

Getting ill is stressful enough without having to worry about long NHS queues for treatment.

Private medical insurance can give you peace of mind that you won't have to wait for the procedures or care you may need as the cost of private treatment will be covered.

About Individual Health Insurance

Individual private healthcare is a policy designed just for yourself, and no-one else.

Your premium will be based on a number of factors, including:

  • Age – as you get older insurance premiums can increase.
  • Weight – being overweight or clinically obese can increase the risk of developing a medical condition – which could result in higher premiums.
  • Smoking – as smoking is proven to be hazardous to health and can increase the risk of developing a medical condition such as lung cancer – insurance premiums are likely to be higher if you smoke.
  • Address – some areas carry a higher health risk (i.e. industrial cities) which could increase costs.
  • Medical History

What Conditions Does Individual Healthcare Cover?

If you are fit and healthy, private medical insurers will cover the majority of medical conditions you could develop – commonly covered conditions include the following, amongst other things:

  • Cancer cover – including palliative care, diagnosis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, etc.
  • Heart disease – including aftercare cover.
  • Stroke – aftercare.
  • Sports injuries – but not professional sports people.
  • Mental health – including counselling, psychiatric care, etc.
  • Complementary therapies – physiotherapy and osteopathy.
  • Alternative therapies – including acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathy, etc.

Exclusions

However, all insurers have exclusions – which explicitly state what isn’t covered.

Generally, exclusions include anything that will only ever be dealt with by the NHS – including:

  • Accident and emergency.
  • Chronic conditions – such as Asthma and Diabetes.
  • HIV & AIDs.
  • War, riots and terrorism.
  • Dangerous sports – such as base jumping, snowboarding, etc.

Each of the insurers we work with have an easily available list of exclusions and our expert advisors will happily talk you through what is and isn’t included for any policy we sell.
