Freedom were founded in 2003 and the company is based on four principles. They care about you, the are always professional, they are honest and open and they are ambitious. Included as a base to your cover with Vitality Freedom Health Insurance are the following benefits.

In-patient and day patient treatment

Including all hospital fees, specialist fees and MRI, CT and PET scans on specialist referral.

Digital GP GP24 gives phone access to a GP 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. More on Digital GPs.
NHS Cash Benefit

£200 per night spent in an NHS hospital to receive inpatient treatment that would be covered by the policy. £100 per day for day patient treatment that would have been covered by the policy.

Cancer Cover 

Including diagnosis, monitoring, surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, genetic testing, targeted therapies, treatment for side effects, reconstructive surgery, bone marrow and stem cell transplant and follow up monitoring. 

Home Nursing Full cover Up to 13 weeks under the supervision of a specialist
Private Ambulance Full cover where medically necessary
Parent Accommodation Accommodation for a parent accompanying a child aged 18 years or under
MRI, CT and PET scans  Included within core cover 
Pregnancy Complications Fees charged by a specialist and a hospital for inpatient and day patient treatment related to pregnancy complications.

Out-patient cover

For diagnostic tests requested by a GP, for up to £750 when using a hospital within the policy cover.

Alternative Therapies

Cover when referred by a GP or medical specialist for Acupuncture, Osteopathy, Podiatry and Homeopathy. Choose from a cover limit of £750 or £1500.

Psychiatric care

Treatment of acute mental or psychiatric illness as an outpatient up to £2,000 and as an inpatient up to 45 days.

Dental, optical and Private GP costs

(£50 excess applies) 

Dental costs – Routine dental costs up to £300.

Accidental Dental Injury – Up to £600.

Optical costs – Covers optician fees for eye tests, prescription glasses and contact lenses. Up to £200 If there has been a change in prescription.

Private GP costs – Fees a private GP charges for consultations, diagnostic tests and minor surgery carried our in the GP’s own surgery. Up to £300. 

 

What isn't covered?

Like most leading insurers, Freedom health insurance is intended to cover acute conditions as opposed to chronic conditions, such as diabetes. All exclusions will be listed in your policy documents. As standard, Vitality does not cover:

  • Gender reassignment
  • Infertility treatment
  • Pregnancy and childbirth
  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Organ transplants
  • AIDS/HIV
  • Treatment for Alcoholism or Substance abuse
  • Chronic conditions
  • Birth Control
  • Cosmetic surgery

Underwriting Options

Freedom offers various underwriting options, all policies are subject to underwriting acceptance. Policies are available for 18 – 70 year olds at policy inception.

  • Full medical underwriting - where you disclose your medical history to Freedom
  • Continued personal medical exclusions – where you switch cover and carry any current personal medical exclusions which apply to the existing policy across to a new policy.
  • Moratorium underwriting - where you don’t need to disclose any medical history until you make a claim
  • Switch moratorium underwriting If you have moratorium underwriting and want to switch provider keeping the original moratorium start date in place.

Hospital Lists

Freedom Elite hospital list offers a comprehensive range of private hospitals throughout the UK. The list includes the UK’s largest hospital groups, such as BMI Healthcare, Nuffield Health, Spire Healthcare and Ramsay Health Care, together with a number of select local providers and regional independent hospitals.

There is a London Plus hospital list extension available to add on which then includes a small number of hospitals based in central London.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Freedom offer a Digital GP service?

Freedom’s virtual GP service, GP24 is an app available to all UK Freedom health insurance customers, which gives you phone access to a registered GP 24/7. They also offer video consultations between 8am and 10pm, 7 days a week (excluding Christmas day). This service enables you to receive advice, referrals, and diagnosis without having to wait for a GP appointment at your local surgery.

What does Freedom not cover?

Like most leading insurers, Freedom health insurance is intended to cover acute conditions as opposed to chronic conditions, such as diabetes – acute flare ups may be covered providing it is not excluded in the underwriting. All exclusions will be listed in your policy documents.

What are Freedom’s excess options?

Freedom’s excess options range from £0 to £1,000. The excess is only to be paid once per year, meaning you can have multiple claims but only have to pay your excess once. The excess options you choose will impact the premium you pay – the higher your excess, the lower the premium you pay will be.

Do Freedom offer Family Health Insurance?

Yes! You can add your partner and children to your plan. Freedom will only charge you a premium for your eldest child, any additional children can be added at no extra cost up to the age of 25.

Is there a discount for paying annually?

Yes! Should you wish to pay your premium annually, Freedom will offer you a 6% discount.

Do Freedom offer cancer care?

Freedom Elite plans offer comprehensive cancer care as standard. The costs of your diagnosis and treatment will be covered. If the cancer becomes terminal, Freedom will cover your end of life care in full.

Do I need health insurance?

We are blessed in the UK to have a National Health Service, so health insurance is not a legal requirement. Health insurance provides the peace of mind however that should you require treatment you can access private health services and avoid NHS waiting times.
